Natural Treatments For Arthritis

January 13th, 2009 by herbscure

Natural remedies for arthritis may be the answer to your continuing problems with the condition. For many arthritis sufferers, joint pain has become a way of life. Because of the rising costs of health care in this country, it can be hard to find relief when a doctor’s visit will set you back at least a few hundred dollars. If the doctor offers a prescription remedy for your pain, it can be several hundred dollars to find relief from your pain. By that time, though, you may need more relief from the pain you feel in your pocketbook than from the pain you feel from your arthritis. The best way to handle the situation, then, first, is to investigate the many natural remedies for arthritis.

Ginger. Common in traditional Chinese medicines, ginger inhibits inflammation to ease arthritis pain. Ginger is especially well suited for people whose arthritis worsens in cold weather, since it warms painful joints by helping increase blood flow. To use it, drink a cup of ginger tea daily, (add one teaspoon freshly grated ginger to hot water, let steep for 10 to 20 minutes, strain and drink). Or take a ginger supplement, one 500 mg capsule three or four times daily.

Cayenne. Cayenne is what puts the zing in chili and other spicy dishes. It also blocks a substance in the body that transmits pain signals. To use, it is best used topically since it can cause nausea when too much is taken internally. Find a prepared topical cayenne cream at most pharmacies at health food stores and rub in affected areas according to package directions.

Supplements associated with easing the pain of Rheumatoid Arthritis are very popular, but should be taken with caution and under the supervision of your physician or homoeopathist. One of the most common supplements for overall joint health is chondroitin sulfate and glucosamine; these work together to form and strengthen joints, cartilage, tendons and ligaments. MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) is usually combined with the aforementioned, due to its anti-inflammatory and joint repair properties.

Glucosamine is a substance found in the fluid around the joints. It is a kind of amino sugar that may assist in the development and maintenance of cartilage. Cartilage is a solid but elastic tissue that spread over the ends of bones. This will prevent bones from crashing against each other, and takes in the force of impact. Chondroitin sulfate is a compound found in the cartilage surrounding the joints. It forms part of a large protein molecule (proteoglycan) that provides cartilage elasticity.

Have you ever heard of Apis? It comes from the honeybee, the bee, plus the stinger! Believe it or not, apis is used to by those arthritis sufferers who have burning and stinging pain. Just like the stinger causes burning, stinging, swelling and itching, apis also relieves those symptoms. So if you have swollen joints that burn or sting and a cold compress makes you feel better, than apis will most likely help.

These are just a few of the natural remedies for arthritis pain and suffering. There are many more to look into. This article is for informational purposes only and not meant to replace a physicians advice.

What Causes Bad Breath

January 13th, 2009 by herbscure

The first question to ask yourself if you notice you have bad breath is what causes bad breath? Particularly what is causing your bad breath? Your breath smells because of the production of volatile sulphur compounds from bacteria that live in your mouth.

This bacteria is anaerobic and uses any food trapped in your teeth or gums to survive. To avoid bad breath you need to make sure you don’t have any food in your teeth and you need to try to reduce the amount of bacteria in your mouth.

Every person has these type of bacteria in his or her mouth. Unfortunately, you cannot get rid of these bad breath-causing bacteria because they serve an important function in the human body. They break down proteins found in food which aids in the digestive process. However, situations occur where the bacteria break down the proteins too quickly which will result in the release of volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs). These compounds can leave a nasty taste in your mouth and give you smelly breath.

Morning mouth is caused because during the night, saliva in your mouth diminishes. As that happens, dead cells inside your mouth will stick on your tongue. In turn, bacteria will eat those dead cells and then expel compounds with an awful odor (disgusting, isn’t it?). That’s pretty much the whole story behind the “morning mouth” bad breath.

From a medical point of view, several diseases can cause bad breath. Sinus is one of them. The affected part in the cheeks often is infected with sinus pus which will produce a strong stench. An infected tonsil also causes bad breath. Diabetes, blood disorder, poor kidney and lung functions are other causes. Taking onions and garlic in one’s food without question is one immediate cause of bad breath.

Smoker’s breath

Another contributing factor to bad breath is smoking. This odor is attributed to the tar, nicotine, and other foul smelling things in the tobacco smoke that accumulate on your teeth and the soft tissue in the mouth. Tobacco can also dry your mouth allowing bacteria to grow in it. It is also a well-known fact that tobacco can contribute to gum disease, which is also a cause of bad breath.

If you are on a diet, then you might eat food with less carbohydrates and high protein. This is a good way of dieting, however, it can cause bad breath as well. The only way to cure this problem is by not taking too much food with protein.

Onions and garlic are the most common examples of foods with such strong odors that they remain on in your breath for a long time. Whatever you do, please make sure you do not eat onions and garlic too much.

The causes of post nasal drip could be a cold, the flu, allergies, cold temperatures, bright lights, certain foods, and even hormonal changes caused by pregnancy. It can also be caused by irritation to pollution.

Post nasal drip should not be left unnoticed and should be treated promptly. Diagnosing yourself and going to the drugstore for self medication is a no-no. Go to a doctor who specializes in nasal infections and have them properly diagnose what is causing your condition and follow his/her prescriptions.
